Grant given to give 9 youth new, employable skills, financial literacy and increase the possibility of future entrepreneurship
TORONTO, << March 14, 2014 >> / – Toronto Community Housing Strengthening Communities grant
has given 9 youth from priority neighbourhoods the opportunity to learn new skills and increase the
probability of future entrepreneurship and employability. Youth built on their assets – leadership skills
and employability, business development and financial literacy for small business and
entrepreneurship.
To highlight the achievement of these young people, The Strengthening Communities Showcase is
scheduled for March 22, 2014 2pm to 4pm at Ascend (Youth Enterprise Network) @ 2350 Finch Ave.
West, Unit B, Toronto, ON M9M 2C7. Community members, friends and family will gather to
celebrate the accomplishment of the youth, who have had the opportunity to learn design principles
of t-shirt making and created merchandise for sale, at Ascend, in addition to learning the
fundamentals of business. These young entrepreneurs will be hosting this event and will share their
experiences throughout the 8 week project and future aspirations.
Engagement of this manner strengthens the social economic capacity of young entrepreneurs in the
GTA. Ascend endeavors to, not only; provide a space but a truly meaningful experience to youth.
Samuel, 17, says “this could be a promising career choice for me.” By creating these opportunities and
engaging youth, we are preparing the next generation with the tools that they will need to be
successful. “This opportunity opened my eyes to a whole new business venture.” (Sarah, 17).
