Financial Literacy for Youth
When youth in the Jane/Finch area leave high school they will begin navigating the financial world of earning and spending. A study by The Investor Education Fund found that 70% of Ontario high school students say learning to manage their personal finances is important. But only one in four respondents to the survey feel they are prepared for managing their personal finances after high school.
Now is the best time for youth to start learning life-long money management skills and techniques such as:
• Building good credit
• Staying away from bad debt
• Preparing a financial plan for future goals
• Preparing and doing your income taxes properly and on time
At The Jane/Finch FAPS Program, we focus on youth in the Black Creek Neighbourhood by providing a free income tax clinic, one on one financial counselling, and specialized workshops for youth who are interested in gaining control of their finances now and in the future.
